Pint Size Cooking Made Easy For Kids

The cooking bug always knows when to strike, and it seems to be nipping very early in age.  The desire is furthered along by great play cooking toys and a great imagination.  Many popular toy maker brands have created miniature kitchens with plastic everything, from pots and pans to sunny-side-up eggs and bacon strips. Pretend cooking is made very easy for inquisitive toddlers to begin experiencing fun in their own tiny kitchens.

The Easy Bake Ovens made cooking easy, fun, and popular to generations of little girls who dreamed of creating a host of tasty and sugary delights right from their bedrooms or play houses.  Helping mom prepare dinner did not seem like a chore at all. In fact it actually made cooking easy with all those extra hands. There was always something to do, and baking usually meant getting to lick the bowl and spoons clean.

All Your Little One Needs Is A Tall White Hat

While almost all children love to play in the kitchen from time to time, there are some who develop a true aptitude early on for culinary anything and everything, beyond just spooning out chocolate chip cookie dough onto baking sheets. Cooking is made easy for these young chefs in the making. They are concerned with the whole meal, and not just dessert. Learning to cook might be more fun to them than any video game system out there. Feed these children by introducing them to T.V. chefs who present fod preparation and presentation as fun and funky.

Many of the cookbooks and videos which are hitting the shelves nowadays are geared towards children with many fun and easy cooking recipes. Despite what you might think, not all of these cooking made easy tasty formulas are cookies and goodies. Let your child plan the dinner menu one night, and play the assistant to your top little chef. You might be very surprised how wholesome and healthy most of these recipes really are.

It is always very important to pay close attention to all that children do in and around the kitchen.  A sturdy step stool may be better than a chair when they want to be able to see over the counter. Anything going in and out of the oven should be handled by an adult, as well as cooking done over the stove. Prepare and teach kids of possible dangers that can happen. Show them how to avoid being hurt, but also what to do in case an injury does occur. It is always better to be safe when it comes to the kitchen.

Healthy Food Cooking Made Easy

If you turn on your television you will most likely be assaulted by the latest weight loss craze. There are programs that will send you their food for a fee, and programs that sell their food at the supermarket. These foods are overpriced but give you a level of security knowing that you are only eating healthy food. What these companies do not want you to know is that healthy food cooking is easy cooking! They want you to believe that it is so difficult to create a healthy meal that you must spend hundreds of dollars a week on their program. But do not be fooled. Anyone can participate in healthy food cooking. It is as simple as making the right choices in the grocery store and implementing the right cooking methods in your home.

Making The Right Choices In The Grocery Store

Healthy food cooking is only possible if you chose the right foods. Instead of processed and boxed foods, try to purchase fresh foods. Fresh vegetables and fruits can make a huge difference in how you feel when eating and cooking healthy. Many people do not even know that fruits can be cooked, but they can! For a quick, easy, and yummy meal, slice some fresh strawberries, add a little bit of brown sugar, and warm in a frying pan on medium high heat. Peaches are also delicious cooked this way. In addition to fresh vegetables and fruits, try to get fresh meats and fish. There are some things that you can make yourself to ensure their freshness. Pasta is one of these items. Instead of purchasing pasta in a box at the store (which is filled with preservatives and additives), make your own pasta at home! Healthy food cooking begins with having the best and healthiest materials to cook with.

Making The Right Choices While Cooking

Healthy food cooking is made possible through cooking with healthy methods. The first step in healthy food cooking is to completely eliminate frying. Fried food is not healthy in any way, shape or form. It is not good for your body, and many people even feel sick to their stomach after eating fried food. This is not something that should be entering your body. Grill instead! Grilling gives the food such a natural, robust flavor. Since the fats drip off the food, it is one of the healthiest cooking choices around.

Healthy food cooking comes down to purchasing healthy ingredients and cooking them in a healthy fashion. If you can succeed doing both of these, you can succeed at healthy food cooking!

Some Useful And Healthy Cooking Tips For Your Kitchen

June 19th, 2009    Subscribe To Our Feed

The days of TV dinners and frozen meals are hopefully becoming a thing of the past. In the future, more people will turn to organic and natural foods as opposed to highly processed foods with chemicals, additives, preservatives and other artificial flavors, preservers, and sweeteners. In an ideal world, people will turn to what nature intended such as natural foods from natural soil. Until then, you can rely on some healthy cooking tips to keep your body as healthy as possible.

What Foods To Look For

In healthy food cooking, it is important to look for the right foods, first and foremost. If you are purchasing a package of ground beef filled with fat, then you are not going to have a healthy meal. Many people associate hamburgers with an unhealthy diet. However, that is not true. If you purchase a package of ground beef that is at least ninety percent lean and ten percent fat, you can make yourself a healthy hamburger. Simply grill the burger, wrap it in a large lettuce leaf and enjoy! You have made yourself a healthy meal from a typically unhealthy hamburger.

Healthy cooking tips like this will help you to keep your kitchen free from unhealthy choices. Another choice is chicken. Many people associate chicken with a healthy diet. However, if cooked incorrectly, chicken can be worse than many other types of meat. Frying chicken, wrapping it in unhealthy foods, or marinating it in unhealthy marinades can ruin the healthfulness of an otherwise healthy choice.

How Should I Prepare The Food?

There are many useful and healthy cooking tips for preparing foods. Some of the most useful healthy cooking tips have to do with cooking the food. Switching from frying or basting food to grilling and roasting can make an otherwise unhealthy choice a more healthy choice. Instead of basting a piece of meat with its drippings, try a nonfat basting sauce such as lemon juice or even tomato juice, there are so many choices out there besides basting in fat!

Also, if you are in a bind, do not assume that you need to eat something that is unhealthy. Some great healthy cooking tips deal with leftovers. Instead of throwing them away or shoving them to the back of the fridge, put the leftovers in individual containers sized for a meal. Instead of buying lunch on the go, grab one of your meals in a travel sized container. Microwaving the meal makes sure that you do not add any unhealthy additives to the meal (such as butter), and it is quick! Now you have a tastier, healthier meal for lunch.

These healthy cooking tips can help you to live a healthier lifestyle and to feel better all around!

Finding A Healthy Cooking Oil

June 7th, 2009    Subscribe To Our Feed

Even when cooking as healthy as possible, it is still sometimes necessary to use cooking oil. Most people understand that healthy cooking is a necessity today in a world filled with fast food, TV dinners, frozen foods and boxed meals. People want to cook their own food from scratch in order to ensure that it is healthy. Therefore, many are frustrated by the claims of every cooking oil manufacturer that their oil is the healthiest and best cooking oil around. How can you decipher which cooking oil is a healthy cooking oil? There are several key fats that will clue you in as to whether or not a particular cooking oil is healthy cooking oil.

Healthy Cooking Tips About Fats

There are two types of fats: good fats and bad fats. These are classified as to whether or not they have the ability to raise good cholesterol and lower bad cholesterol. The two bad fats are saturated fats and trans-fats. Saturated fats raise total cholesterol as well as bad cholesterol. Trans-fats raise bad cholesterol and lower good cholesterol. Thee two good fats found in healthy cooking oil are monounsaturated fats and polyunsaturated fats. The monounsaturated fats found in healthy cooking oil lower the bad cholesterol and raise the good cholesterol while the polyunsaturated fats in healthy cooking oil also lower the bad cholesterol and raise the good cholesterol. Based on this, the best and most healthy cooking oil will contain both monounsaturated fats and polyunsaturated fats while steering clear of saturated fats and trans fats.

That said, as long as you are using these oils sparingly in your cooking, it should not make a large difference whether or not you use the healthy cooking oil. While every little bit does help, if you are only using a teaspoon now and then, the difference is minute. However, if you use cooking oil frequently, it can be on small step towards a healthful lifestyle to stop using the unhealthy cooking oils and stick to a healthy cooking oil.

Even with the above information, it can be difficult to choose healthy cooking oil. A few healthy choices are canola oil, extra virgin olive oil, macadamia nut oil, sesame oil, soybean oil and walnut oil. The obvious downside for some of these oils is that if you are allergic to nuts, many of them contain nuts and are not a viable alternative for healthy cooking oil. Another thing to note about these healthy oils is that some have a higher smoke temperature than others, so if you are going to fry with them, try to use one with a higher smoke temperature like canola oil.

Healthy Cooking For Kids Made Easy

May 30th, 2009    Subscribe To Our Feed

There are few things in life more important than the health of our children. Across America, childhood obesity has risen to epidemic levels. Children are not getting the exercise they need. They are eating junk food filled with trans-fats, cholesterol, carbohydrates, saturated fats and sodium. Parents are busier than ever and more prone to throw together a frozen meal or a boxed meal, neither of which provide true nutrients and vitamins essential to growing up strong, healthy and within an ideal body mass index. Because parents are busy, it is essential that parents learn healthy cooking for kids so as to foster an environment of healthfulness in the home for their children.

What Should I Teach My Child About Healthy Cooking For Kids?

Healthy cooking for kids is more than just the food that you are cooking, as it is a lifestyle. We want our children to grow up knowing what foods are good and what foods are not. We want our children to see vegetables and fruits as a treat and a delicious snack rather than a punishment. In order to teach your child about healthy cooking for kids, it is important that you, the parent, are on board as well. If you do not eat healthy and live a healthy lifestyle, then your children will not eat healthy and live a healthy lifestyle.

Healthy cooking for kids includes many concepts. First, eliminate unnecessary things like butter and fatty cooking oils like vegetable oil. Instead, use healthy cooking oil like canola oil or flax seed oil. Second, keep a large supply of salad mix, fresh vegetables and fresh fruits around for quick snacks. While this is not necessarily healthy cooking for kids, it does teach a child that snacks can be nutritious and delicious instead of junk food filled with sugar.

Healthy cooking for kids is incredibly important today. There are unhealthy foods, such as sodas, hamburgers, hot dogs, whole milk, French fries, tater tots and American cheese that parents love to feed their children. And children love to eat them! These are all staples in a child’s lunch. Eliminating them may be difficult, but doing so is crucial to your child’s health. Instead of regular hot dogs, substitute low fat turkey dogs. The same can be done with whole milk. Instead of whole milk, try two percent or one percent milk. Burgers can be made from extra lean ground beef with whole-wheat buns. Almost every food that is a child favorite can be substituted with something else that is also healthy.

Healthy cooking for kids is not always easy, as children are notoriously picky creatures. However, if you are able to succeed at healthy cooking for kids, your children will be happier, healthier and have more energy all around.

Finding A Healthy Cooking Recipe

May 12th, 2009    Subscribe To Our Feed

In today’s food world, a healthy cooking recipe can be hard to find. Meats and vegetables alike are greased, fried and covered in salt. The problem is so great that governments are even getting involved, forcing fast food chains to display the nutritional facts about each item of food on their menu. There is even talk of banning trans-fats from the fast food industry. With all of these unhealthy fat and cholesterol laden foods around, it is more important now than ever to find a healthy cooking recipe for the foods you like to eat.

How Do I Know If It Is Healthy?

Many parents feed their children food mistakenly thinking that it is a healthy alternative to McDonalds or Burger King. Parents are short on time and money, so they purchase cheap items like Kraft Macaroni and Cheese. Little do they know that one serving of Kraft Macaroni and Cheese has several hundred calories, as well as excessive amounts of carbohydrates and sodium.

Finding out whether or not the food you are preparing is a healthy cooking recipe is not as difficult as it may sound. Whether you are preparing the meal from a box or from scratch, there are several things to look for that scream unhealthy cooking recipe! First, look for the use of butter. Kraft Macaroni and Cheese has the preparer add several tablespoons of butter to the recipe. Butter is loaded with saturated fats that do nothing positive for your body. If your favorite recipe calls for several tablespoons of butter, try substituting margarine instead to turn it into a healthy cooking recipe.

Another stand out in an unhealthy cooking recipe is the use of a fryer. If the recipe calls for the meat or vegetable to be fried in any type of oil, that is a dead giveaway that it is not a healthy cooking recipe. This may not be a recipe that can be easily modified into a healthy cooking recipe. However, cooking it another way can be just as satisfying. If you enjoy fried chicken tenders, try grilling them instead. When grilled, the chicken retains more flavor and more of the essential nutrients and vitamins found in it. In addition, grilling does not add any unhealthy fats or salts to the recipe.

If you still do not feel comfortable that you have a healthy cooking recipe for your favorite dish, you can always take a healthy cooking class. These classes will teach you exactly what to do to change your favorite recipes into healthy cooking recipes, as well as teach you various methods of healthy cooking and healthy meal choices.
